Herts Tamil School along with Tamil Union of Herts celebrated the much awaited occasion of the new year, Pongal 2020. The venue was the same as last year, Bushey Cricket Club, a cricket field with all the amenities to successfully celebrate the traditional harvest festival of Tamils – Pongal.
As always we had the excitement of Pongal being prepared on site in the open whilst the preparation for the pooja happening inside the hall. Once all of us witnessed the boiling of Pongal rice, the pooja began promptly with the children of the school singing and reciting traditional hymns and songs from Tamil literature and culture.
The children were also being treated to some fun with firework display whilst they waited for the Pongal rice to be ready. It was a bright and crisp day uplifting the mood of everyone especially the children.
